St. Martin
For 350 years now, the island of St. Martin has been shared by the French and
Dutch in the true spirit of friendship and cooperation. It is the smallest
island to benefit from such historical diplomatic treaty.
With lovely scenery all along, you may hardly notice the boundary separating
the French and Dutch sides unless pointed out to you. Though both sides
have co-habited very well for all these years, they have also managed to
maintain their own culture and customs. St. Martin (for the French) enjoys
comfort and elegance. This is clearly seen in it's manner of dress, luxurious
resorts, well-kept secluded beaches and fine dining. Mingled with the smell
of great West Indian cooking are the pleasant aromas of the famous croissant,
French pastries and coffees.
Dutch St Maarten, however, is the action spot for trade, tourism and the
night life. It's seaport is busy year round with cruise ships and endless
shops and boutiques which are always bustling with activity.
How about the climate? Well, it's just perfect for that great holiday in
the sun. Averaging 82°F, St. Martin is warm and sunny year round, with
just about 2° cooler in the winter months. |
